The government revoked the freeze imposed in 2006 on land owners of Sathanur, Ramanagaram, Solur and Nandagudi, enabling them to go ahead with development and construction activities. It plans to include Bidadi in the list too. “The decision was taken after the previous government’s ambitious plans to develop integrated townships in these areas failed,” law minister S Suresh Kumar said.
In 2006, the government notified Bidadi, Sathanur, Ramanagaram, Solur and Nandagudi for developing integrated townships and banned construction activity in these areas. However, the township projects did not take off for various reasons. Result: more and more landowners sought permission to develop their land, Kumar said.
Except for Bidadi, the cabinet resolved to relax the ban in four areas with a rider that development activity should get government approval. Besides, Kumar said the government will take up drinking water and sanitation schemes in CMC areas in and around Kengeri.
