Coming as a sigh of relief to the ever increasing populace of Eastern Kochi, the State Government is considering construction of a ring road connecting East Kochi with the newly functional Vyttila Mobility Hub. The plan has been approved by the Chief Minister Mr. Oomen Chandy, during a meeting held in Trivandrum. PWD Minister Ibrahim Kunju, Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd Mr. Tom Jose, and many other senior officials of the Revenue and other government departments were in attendance. The proposed four lane road will be constructed in anticipation of the increasing traffic the city will have to accommodate with the revival of the smart City Project and also the development of Kalamassery as a major IT hub. The officials disclose that the aim is to enable a driver to cover the distance of the 15km road within a matter of 10 minutes. A road like this is certainly going to be a boon to traffic. As the existing roads are always jam-packed, the proposed ring road is just what the doctor ordered for Kochi. But Kochiites will have to wait a little longer to see any constructive progress in the plan with the Government stating that construction of the road through Government funds alone was not possible and that they were looking into the possibility of raising finance for the project. Well, hope that the Government does find a way to fund the project, as Kochi can undoubtedly do with literally bigger and better roads.
