The Kochi Corporation will be equipped with a digital map of the city, which will enable the authorities in tracking each and every building in the city, nearly 1.5 million people, every road, tree and even the garbage bins.Talk about hi-tech! And what is more, all this information would be available at a mouse click. The project known as the Geographical Information System or the GIS, which had earlier been stalled after some initial ward surveys, will now be implemented under e-governance project. The survey which is yet to be completed consists of 48 questions, which will help the administration in identifying people living in each house and their whereabouts. A geographical survey is also to be carried out, which will cover areas such as property, land details, drainage system, street lamps, roads and other details. Once completed, GIS maps would help the authorities to track property tax defaulters, vital installations and water and drainage leakages.
